I went to Stirling on Saturday 21st of February. I wrote something about the trip in Finnish some time ago. I went there for a short day trip with two American and three Mexican study abroad students. We headed out for Stirling early in the morning. Previous night some people had a house party, but luckily we had the sense to leave early enough. Elli on the other hand was just returning from the party as I was leaving for the train station around 8 (time does fly by when you’re having fun) . The train left at nine towards Stirling. The train ride itself was not that long and we were in Stirling around 10:30.
Our first stop was the National Wallace Monument. There was a guide talking about the history of the place. We didn’t stick around to listen to him. Entry to the monument itself was unfortunetaly not free, so we just stayed outside and enjoyed the magnificent sceneries from top of the hill.
The monument is located on top of a hill that overlooks Stirling, definately worth the visit if you go to Stirling. The National Wallace Monument is over 60 meters high. Even though the guide has some nice swords and stuff in the picture, there are now epic re-enactments of scenes from the Braveheart (Shame!).

Stirling Castle
It got pretty hot walking up the hill, but luckily the walk down and the soft breeze cooled us off fast. After the monument, we headed towards the Stirling Castle. We got a small tour of the castle and did some looking around ourselves. I liked the castle alot, and with the tour it was definately more interesting than the Edinburgh Castle (we didn’t take the free tour there). The castle entrance fee included a walking tour to the Argyll House nearby. If you ever find yourself in Stirling, Argyll House is worth seeing if you like history and architecture. We spent the rest of the day walking around Stirling. We bumped into some other students from Glasgow, who were on a day trip as well (great minds think alike).
